Awards

Everyone knows a person or persons who are key in making our libraries and the library services that we offer top notch.  Every year, you have the opportunity to nominate one of your colleagues for the following NLA Awards. These are the awards that are given each year and the criteria for each award.

Fill out the online Awards Nomination form no later than Thursday, October 26, 2023 and nominate a deserving NLA colleague!

Dorothy McAlinden Award

For outstanding service to, or on behalf of, the association which is rendered by a member who is not a professional library employee.

Librarian of the Year / Trustee of the Year
The Librarian of the Year is awarded for the librarian/trustee that has shown effort in the following :

  • For constructive accomplishments toward the advancement and extension of library service and the development of sound library policies; creative and effective interpretation of the library on a regional, local or national level.
  • For notable activity in library legislation, recruitment, statewide planning, published writings, outstanding participation in NLA, ALA, MPLA, Friends of the Library etc.
  • For broadened scope of service to the community; specialized services to children, young adults, senior citizens, the handicapped etc.
  • For an outstanding contribution to library education; library techniques, library building, library management, establishment or organization of a new library or library system, or expansion or revitalization of an established library system or library.
  • For a substantial financial assistance or endowment.

Nevada Young Readers' Awards
Awards are given to titles voted on by Nevada children and students for best Picture Book, Young Reader, Intermediate and Young Adult categories. Find out more about which titles won.

Special Citation Award

  • For constructive accomplishments toward the advancement and extension of library service and the development of sound library policies of the creative and effective of the library on a local or state level.
  • For praiseworthy activity in library legislation, recruitment, statewide planning, published writings, outstanding participation in NLA, ALA, MPLA, Friends of the Library etc.
  • For a praiseworthy contribution to library education, library techniques, library building, library management, establishment of a new library or library system.
  • For a substantial financial assistance or endowment.
