Confidence Is Not Rocket Science: Defeating Impostor Syndrome and Creating a Launchpad for Authentic Achievement

Impostor Syndrome has a sneaky way of messing with your head. No matter how much you’ve accomplished, it whispers that you don’t really belong here, and that sooner or later, someone’s going to figure that out. The truth? It’s not a lack of ability holding you back. It’s how your brain is interpreting your success.

In this engaging and practical session, you’ll learn how to recognize when Impostor Syndrome is at the controls, and how to take it back. You’ll walk through clear, powerful strategies to quiet self-doubt, stop second-guessing yourself, and start trusting the skills and experience you already have.

This isn’t motivational hype or pretending you never feel uncertain. It’s understanding what confidence actually is, how it gets derailed, and how to rebuild it in a way that feels real and sustainable. You’ll leave with a new perspective, a stronger internal narrative, and tools you can use immediately without burning yourself out or trying to become someone you’re not.

In this session, you will:

  • Get clear on what Impostor Syndrome is—and what it isn’t
  • Discover three practical ways to shift unhelpful thought patterns that keep you stuck
  • Break free from the “compare and despair” cycle
  • Lead with clarity and credibility by aligning your confidence with your competence to unleash your influence

Call for Program Proposals

Be part of the Renaissance. Share your story, your strategies, and your spark.

We’re now accepting proposals for the 2026 NLA Conference.

Presentation Length: 50 minutes
(40 minutes of content + 10‑minute Q&A)
Proposal Deadline: February 27, 2026
Presenter Notification: Week of March 2, 2026

Do you have an idea, program, or experience that helped move your library forward? We want to hear from you. This year’s Renaissance theme celebrates creativity, reinvention, and growth across Nevada’s libraries. We welcome proposals that share successes, lessons learned, new approaches, and meaningful community impact.

Whether you're leading a panel, offering hands‑on instruction, or sharing lessons from the field, we welcome proposals from professionals across all library types and roles (public, academic, school, special, tribal, and beyond).

You don’t need to be an expert or a polished speaker to have something valuable to share. Some of the most impactful sessions come from people who simply want to tell their story, start a conversation, or show what worked (or didn’t) in their library.

Why Present?
• Share your ideas with a supportive statewide audience
• Build confidence and professional experience
• Connect with colleagues doing similar work
• Spark new collaborations across Nevada
• Receive complimentary registration for the day you present

Submit your proposal today and help create a masterpiece.
